Moises Caicedo Injury Mars Chelsea’s Club World Cup Semi-Final Win

Chelsea are on the verge of Club World Cup glory after a commanding 2-0 win over Fluminense in the semi-finals at the MetLife Stadium, but the victory came at a cost. Midfield powerhouse Moises Caicedo suffered a concerning ankle injury late in the match, putting his availability for Sunday’s final in serious doubt.

Enzo Maresca’s side booked their spot in the final thanks to a brace from £60 million summer signing Joao Pedro. Chelsea now await their final opponents — either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid — in what promises to be a blockbuster clash.

However, attention quickly turned to Caicedo, who went down clutching his ankle in the final moments of the game. The Ecuadorian international attempted to finish the match despite visible discomfort and was later seen with ice strapped to his ankle after the final whistle.

Speaking after the game, Maresca revealed:

“Moi twisted his ankle… I told him we could play with 10 players — the important thing was not to make it worse because we have a game on Sunday.”

Although Caicedo tried to push through the pain, the manager admitted that the 23-year-old struggled and felt pain attempting to move.

“Hopefully he can be fit on Sunday. We will see,” Maresca added, urging his midfield star to do everything possible to be ready for the final.

Caicedo himself sounded hopeful. Taking to Instagram after the match, he wrote:

“See you on Sunday, Blues.”

Fans will be praying for positive news as Chelsea gear up for their biggest match under Maresca yet. With a title on the line and Caicedo’s grit never in doubt, all eyes are on the medical team as the countdown to Sunday begins.
