Highlights:
- Hansi Flick selects La Masia duo Dro and Jofre Torrents.
- Both players to join senior squad for Japan tour.
- Selection follows intense pre-season training sessions.
Barcelona’s new era under Hansi Flick is already showing signs of faith in youth, as the German tactician has selected two La Masia talents — Pedro Fernández Sarmiento (aka Dro) and Jofre Torrents — to join the senior squad for their first pre-season tour in Japan.
Flick, known for developing young talent during his time at Bayern Munich and the German national team, made the call after overseeing a series of intense training sessions involving nine players from Barça Atlètic. Dro and Torrents emerged as standout performers during the 10-session week that included several double workouts.

Pedro Fernández Sarmiento (“Dro”): Having switched between Juvenil A and B last season, Dro impressed with his versatility and composure in a highly competitive position. Flick noticed his consistency and decision-making during the drills and simulations.
Jofre Torrents: A promising left-back hailed as one of La Masia’s brightest prospects, Torrents brings speed, tactical awareness, and defensive maturity — traits that caught the coaching staff’s attention early in the training phase.
This early selection does not rule out the addition of more academy players later in the tour, but Dro and Torrents are the first two officially chosen for the Japan trip. They are expected to travel with the squad this Thursday to face Vissel Kobe in Barcelona’s first friendly of the summer.
Hansi Flick’s Philosophy in Action
With a senior squad brimming with top-tier talent, competition was naturally intense. Flick made it clear from the outset that only the most deserving would make the trip. His staff evaluated every session for performance, fitness, and match-readiness.
By backing young talents from day one, Flick is sending a strong message — La Masia’s pipeline to the first team remains open and alive.
Barcelona fans now eagerly await how the duo will perform in Japan. If they continue to shine, they could find themselves knocking on the door for permanent first-team roles in the 2025–26 season.
