Marc Cucurella Reveals Williams Was Scared
Spanish international Marc Cucurella has offered insight into Nico Williams’ surprising decision to reject Barcelona this summer. According to Cucurella, Williams was simply “scared” that Barcelona wouldn’t be able to register him due to the club’s ongoing financial struggles and registration issues.
“I think he was just afraid that he wouldn’t be registered,” Cucurella told Gerard Romero, hinting at the uncertainty plaguing the Catalan giants this transfer window.
Williams, who was close to sealing a move to Camp Nou, ultimately signed a long-term extension with Athletic Club, avoiding the registration limbo that’s reportedly delaying signings like Joan Garcia, Roony Bardghji, and Marcus Rashford.
When asked what he would do in Williams’ place, Cucurella admitted it was a tough call:
“Even if they promise they’ll register you, these days I don’t trust anyone.”

“We were all waiting for him to leave… but the guy didn’t want to,” said Cucurella. “He told us, ‘Lift it up, I’ll stay here.’ And I wondered, who would say anything to him? I was scared sh\stless.”
