In a move that has sent ripples through the Indian domestic cricket circuit, Prithvi Shaw has officially parted ways with the Mumbai Cricket Association and will now represent the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) from the upcoming season. The decision marks a significant turning point in Shaw’s cricketing journey and is being viewed as a strategic step to revitalize his career.

A Strategic Shift

Shaw, a dynamic top-order batter and a former India U-19 World Cup-winning captain, expressed that joining Maharashtra at this point in his career will aid his personal and professional growth. He credited Mumbai for playing a crucial role in his development but believes the move to Maharashtra offers him a more progressive setup to thrive further.

“I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricketer,” Shaw stated. “I’m happy to get the opportunity to play alongside talented players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ankit Bawne, Rahul Tripathi, Rajneesh Gurbani, and Mukesh Choudhary.”

Maharashtra’s Vision and Growing Infrastructure

Shaw’s decision was influenced by Maharashtra’s growing cricketing ecosystem, with strong domestic initiatives such as the Maharashtra Premier League, Women’s MPL, Corporate Shield, and the prestigious D.B. Deodhar Tournament. The infrastructure boost and increased opportunities for competitive play were seen as major draws for Shaw.

MCA President Rohit Pawar welcomed Shaw, noting that his IPL and international experience would bring valuable depth to the squad and mentor younger players. “We are delighted to welcome a player of Prithvi Shaw’s calibre,” Pawar said. “His inclusion adds tremendous strength to an already talented team.”

A Promising Future

Shaw’s track record speaks for itself: he has represented India in all three formats—Tests, ODIs, and T20Is—and played pivotal roles in domestic and IPL games. With over 4500 first-class runs and 13 centuries to his name, he remains a formidable presence at the crease.

As he steps into this new chapter with the Maharashtra team, both Shaw and the MCA seem aligned in vision and ambition—to scale new heights in Indian domestic cricket and set benchmarks for the upcoming generation.
