Rishabh Pant becomes first Wicketkeeper batsman to Achieve Feat

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who is currently the vice-captain of Team India, scored centuries in both innings against England. He made 134 runs off 178 balls in the first innings and followed it up with 118 runs off 140 balls in the second. With this feat, he became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score a century in both innings of a Test match and only the seventh Indian player overall to achieve this rare milestone.

KL Rahul also scored a century in the second innings. Despite these brilliant performances, Shubman Gill’s team lost the match by 5 wickets. Earlier in the first innings, both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Gill had also scored centuries. With this win, the host team took a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series.

After the victory, England batter Ben Duckett was named Player of the Match at Headingley for his impressive knocks of 62 and 149 in the first and second innings, respectively. With this performance, he climbed to the 8th spot in the ICC Test batting rankings with 787 rating points. Duckett smashed 9 boundaries in the first innings and followed it up with 21 fours and 1 six in the second.

On the other hand, Joe Root and Harry Brook retained their No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the ICC Test batsmen rankings, respectively.

In the bowling department, Josh Tongue had an outstanding performance, picking up a total of 7 wickets across both innings.

India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has retained his No. 1 spot in the ICC Test bowling rankings with 907 rating points. Although he went wicketless in the second innings, he made a strong impact in the first by taking 5 wickets and putting England’s batters under serious pressure. Prasidh Krishna also played a key role with the ball, maintaining pressure throughout the match by picking up 3 wickets in the first innings and 2 in the second.
