India-Bangladesh white-ball series postponed to September 2026 due to scheduling issues and security concerns in Bangladesh.

India-Bangladesh white-ball cricket series postponed to September 2026 due to security concerns.

Highlights:

In a significant development for South Asian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have mutually agreed to postpone the upcoming white-ball series. Initially scheduled for August 2025, the series will now be held in September 2026 due to scheduling conflicts and growing security concerns in Bangladesh.

India-Bangladesh Series Details and Reason for Postponement

The white-ball series was set to include three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) from August 17 to 31, 2025, across Chittagong and Dhaka. However, the volatile political environment in Bangladesh, particularly following last year’s civil unrest and the overthrow of the Sheikh Hasina-led government, has raised red flags.

The BCCI reportedly requested the postponement, citing the need for general elections to take place and a stable government to be in place before touring. Bangladesh is currently governed by an interim administration led by Muhammad Yunus, with elections expected no earlier than early 2026.

Official Statements and Reactions

In a joint statement, the BCCI and BCB emphasized that the decision followed detailed discussions and considered the international cricket calendar and the convenience of both boards. “This decision has been reached following discussions… taking into account international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams,” read the BCCI’s official release.

The BCB added that the revised schedule will be announced “in due course” and expressed their anticipation of welcoming India in September 2026.

Political Turmoil Behind the Delay

While the official reason centers around scheduling, sources indicate that the security situation was a major factor. Civil unrest and political instability in Bangladesh post-2024 have raised serious concerns over law and order. The BCCI, prioritizing player safety, appears to have taken a cautious approach.
