In a breathtaking display of talent, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi lit up the cricketing world with an explosive debut that powered India’s Under-19 team to a dominant six-wicket victory over England in the opening Youth ODI at Hove.

A Debut to Remember:
Chasing a modest target of 175, India wrapped up the game in just 24 overs, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi emerging as the undisputed star. The young sensation smashed 48 runs off just 19 balls, including five massive sixes and three fours, turning the game on its head and setting the tone for India’s commanding chase.
This performance comes hot on the heels of his record-breaking run in the IPL 2025 season, where he became the youngest centurion in men’s T20s, playing for the Rajasthan Royals.
Bollywood Vibes: “Tufano Ko Cheer Ke…”
After the match, the teenager posted a photo with team’s sports massage therapist Mangesh Gaikwad, captioned with the iconic line from the movie Iqbal — Tufano Ko Cheer Ke…”, as the song “Aashayein” played in the background. The post instantly went viral, showcasing not only his on-field heroics but also his flair off the field.
Partnership Power & Team Effort
Before falling to Ralphie Albert after a 71-run blitz in just 7.3 overs alongside captain Ayush Mhatre, Suryavanshi had already decimated England’s bowling. His cameo electrified the Indian innings, which was smoothly carried forward by wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu. With an unbeaten 45, Kundu anchored the chase confidently, sealing the win with a staggering 26 overs to spare.
England Falter Despite Flintoff’s Fifty
Earlier in the day, England opted to bat but were bundled out for 174 in 42.2 overs. Debutant Isaac Mohammed offered brief resistance with a quickfire 42 off 28 balls, while Rocky Flintoff top-scored with a gritty 56. But India’s bowlers never let the opposition settle.
Bowling Brilliance & Sharp Fielding
Spinners Mohamed Enaan and Kanishk Chouhan took five wickets between them and put a stranglehold on England’s scoring during the middle overs. The Indian fielders backed their bowlers brilliantly, producing a run-out and taking some well-judged catches to restrict England effectively.
What’s Next?
With this emphatic win, India has drawn first blood in the five-match Youth ODI series. All eyes will now be on how England responds and whether Suryavanshi can continue his fiery form.
